Unshakable Faith

When your faith is tested and you are going through a rough time, whom are you going to look at to meet your needs? I will share with you what could be going on in the spirit realm while you wait on the Lord.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Mark 11:24

What beautiful words. Present your requests and prayers to God. All He requires is that you believe and have faith and it will be yours.

But…

Have you ever felt that maybe a prayer was unheard or just unanswered?

Have you ever felt tormented by the enemy or by life itself and asked God for relief with seemingly no response?

I think at some point we have all been there. And though we know the Lord is a good and faithful God we can feel alone and unheard at times.

My experience forever changed my perspective on praying and having my prayers answered.

This summer I have spent more time than ever in my life developing a deeper intimacy with Christ and the Holy Spirit. By changing some areas in my life I believe this angered the enemy greatly. The closer you want to get to God, the more the enemy wants to tear you away from him. The enemy can try, but he doesn’t have that kind of power. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

I soon would experience a rough period of testing and attacks from the enemy. My faith and trust was tested the most.

I was plagued by horrible nightmares.

One night specifically I prayed aloud that I would have peaceful dreams and rest.  That night I had experienced one of the worst nightmares I had ever experienced in my life. I mean the worst dream you could ever imagine. It left me very confused and angered. I prayed a specific prayer that I don’t always pray and had it completely thrown back in my face.

It was clearly an attack on the enemy, but why? Why could he attack my dreams when I specially prayed to God to have good pure dreams?

I spoke with my mom on the subject and she advised me to pray quietly in my mind. The enemy can hear the words we say and the prayers as well. That’s why it’s so important to speak life giving words and not negative oppressing words over ourselves.

I listened to her advise and that night I prayed in my mind that I would have no nightmares and dream peacefully. The night I had another nightmare.

It appeared my prayers were not being answered.

I wasn’t ready to doubt God yet. I prayed continually every single night and every night I had horrible nightmares that made me feel restless during the day and weary at night. I personally like to wake up early in the morning to start my day, and I was sleeping in every day because of these nightmares. They made me physically and mentally exhausted.

Even though I didn’t understand why this was happening I continued to pray. Many nights had passed and still I was having nightmares.

One morning I awoke in a cold sweat from a very violent and disturbing dream. That morning I had enough. I was so sick and tired. Angry and beyond frustrated. Why was this continuing?

Was I doing something wrong? Had I left an open door in my life that was allowing these dreams?

I begged and pleaded with God to tell me why this was happening because I couldn’t take another sleepless night like this again.

I asked for him to reveal to me why this was happening.

Then out of nowhere a thought appeared in my mind. It was the story of Job. A man in the bible who was blameless and upright. He feared the Lord and shunned evil.

The the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. (Job 1:8-12)

The story goes on to the many trails of Job. He was righteous in his own eyes he repented and the Lord forgave him. He also blessed him more then what he originally had.

The point I want to make from this story is I imagined in my mind an evil spirit going to the Lord and saying something like this, “Let me throw fiery darts at her dreams and disrupt her sleep. Watch and see that she will lose her faith in you and truly curse you.”

Then I’d imagine God saying something like this, “You don’t know my daughter like I do. She is a good and faithful servant and I have faith in her.”

When I imagined this in my mind it brought me to tears. I announced out loud, “I do not doubt my faithful God. I know he hears my prayers and will deliver me.”

I wanted to let the enemy know that I trusted God despite my circumstances. I praised God and his holy name and gave him thanks.

That night I had the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. The nightmares stopped completely and my life went on like it always had.

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

 Hebrews 11:6

I want you to know that every prayer you pray is heard, but most importantly is the faith you put behind it. It is impossible to please God without your faith. If you struggle in this area and are not good at putting your trust in the Lord then pray for it. Pray for what you need, and you will receive it.

You must believe and have faith.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

When the enemy comes against you and is trying to steal your joy and faith, I want you to have a thought like this:

Imagine an evil spirit telling God that you will surely curse him when your prayer is not answered at your own preferable timing. Doesn’t that make you want to believe and have even more faith? Doesn’t that make you want to make God proud and for him to call you good and faithful servant?

God is never absent, always present. The enemy wants to tear down your faith in God and make you doubt him in hard times. Don’t let the enemy have victory in your life. God sent his son so that we can live victoriously. There is power in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit was sent to lead us into all truth. There is power available to every believer. Don’t live this life powerless and defeated. Live the way God always intended!

Be faithful in the Almighty and you can never fail!

He Knows You

God knows every intimate detail about you. This fact can be unnerving at times. He knows every hidden secret that we hide from others. The ugly thoughts we sometimes harbor and the deceiving things we sometimes do. The utter humiliation we would go through if our dirty laundry was out in the open for people to see; yet we rarely take into account that all is seen by God. Why is this a good thing? Because despite our dirty and dark secrets of shameful mistakes, He loves us anyway. He has seen our worst and yet has not run away from us. He pursues us relentlessly and is desperate for an intimate relationship that will help us grow into the person He always intended us to be. What an amazing Father we have that He loves us just as we are!

Psalm 139:

You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.

You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.

If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!

They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.

Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?

I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.

Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Contentment

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:11-13

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Matthew 6:24

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure with trouble. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fatted calf with hatred.

Proverbs 15:16-17

Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.

Proverbs 28:6

How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver! The highway of the upright avoids evil, those who guard their ways preserve their lives.

Proverbs 16:16-17

Obeying His Word

coffee dates

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.”

John 14:23

 When you disregard the words of God you are essentially saying you know better and don’t need His help. By not listening to God’s Word shows you don’t value its importance. You neither know or understand His heart when you refuse His commands. Embrace wholeheartedly what instruction He provides to you. He has your best intentions in mind. Your unwavering obedience will be rewarded and your relationship with God will flourish. God doesn’t love you any less when you ignore what He says but you please God greatly when you choose to embrace His Word with an eager heart. Demonstrate your love for God by valuing what He has to say. Love God with all your heart and mind but also love God in action!

The Battlefield

coffee dates

“Now the prince of this world will be driven out.”

John 12:31

As a naive early Christian I use to look upon others who didn’t believe in God with envy that their lives seemed free of trouble. At least that’s how it appeared on the outside. The illusion that nothing could touch them and that they didn’t answer for their wrongful acts. Why did being a Christian seem so difficult and their lives seem so effortless? No one really warns you that when you become a Christian you essentially have to be ready for battle. The war is not against people but principalities and the dark forces of this world. When we accept Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we hope for a peaceful life free of any trouble, turmoil, or pain. That is not the case. To be a follower of Christ and a citizen of Heaven you have now become a soldier in His army. There is no area in our lives that is not targeted by the enemy. Though the warfare may be intense it is absolutely worth the fight. Eternity and the Kingdom of God is at hand! Jesus defeated death on the cross and made a public spectacle of the devil and his demonic forces. He has been furious ever since! Those unbelievers I was foolishly envious of didn’t have freedom, joy, or peace in their lives. It was a deceitful lie cleverly cloaked by the enemy. The important thing that Jesus always wants us to remember is the victory is ours for the taking! We have unlimited access from God to the tools we need to be successful and victorious in this life. Even in our weakest lowest moment God has promised to fight on our behalf because His strength is made perfect in our weakness. His grace is sufficient for those who trust in Him. No matter what battle comes tomorrow be at peace because God is already there! Victory belongs to those who surrender to the cross and whose hearts are completely His!
