Faith in Trials

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold- through your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trails, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.”

1 Peter 1:7-8

Sometimes when we are facing trials it’s hard not to wonder where God is. How do you hold on to your faith when you are going through the fire and it appears God is nowhere in sight? The worst thing we could do is let our circumstances turn us against God.

“Trials and pain are not ultimately harmful unless they diminish our relationship with God. But the righteous will not let them do that. They let their trials draw them closer to God. They see His grace more clearly in the aftermath of pain; they trust Him more truly when obstacles hinder trust; they serve Him more sacrificially when it costs something. Through pain, we see Him better, and He becomes more real to us. There is no harm in that.” -Chris Tiegreen

We grow best when we are going through trials because pain causes us to depend on God to carry us through and develop us spiritually. When the enemy strikes our spiritual maturity will come to surface and determine how we handle our circumstances. When trouble comes all we are becomes exposed and our true faith in God comes out. Do we accuse God and question His intentions? Adversity and troubling times reveal a lot about what we really believe. It’s easy to love God when everything is going smoothly but where is your unwavering love when the storm hits? Every time adversity strikes is a time of character development and a chance to grow closer to God. Instead of accusing Him of why He is allowing it to happen we can instead worship Him through the midst of the darkness and praise him all the more when He carries us through. And He ALWAYS carries us through. If faith is maintained through the trial, then nothing can truly harm you.
