Twas the Night Before Jesus Came

Screen Shot 2017-12-24 at 12.39.03 PM

Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house, Not a creature was praying, not one in the house. Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care, In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed, Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head. And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap, Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

When out of the East there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was The matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here. With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray, I knew in a moment this must be The Day!

The light of His face made me cover my head, It was Jesus! Returning just like He had said. And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth, I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life which He held in His Hand, Was written the name of every saved man. He spoke not a word as He searched for my name; When He said “It’s not here” My head hung in shame!

The people whose names had been written with love, He gathered to take to His Father above. With those who were ready He rose without a sound, While all the rest were left standing around.

I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and this sealed my fate. I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight; Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear; The coming of Jesus is drawing near. There’s only one life and when comes the last call

We’ll find that the Bible was true after ALL!

God Inspired

I’m writing a post today I didn’t expect to write. I wanted to first share an interesting spiritual dream I had last night and the process I go through when writing a devotional.

Before I went to sleep last night, I expressed to those close to me that I had been feeling attacked by the enemy and really defeated. I would be fine during the day but once night hit it’s like a wave of darkness would hit and overwhelm me. I would have terrible nightmares that felt so real and lingered in my thoughts throughout the next day. I asked for prayer that night because I believe when you get together with two or more it is done in heaven as it is done on earth. Before I went to sleep I asked to receive a dream from God. I wasn’t specific on what I wanted to dream about but I asked non-the less.

In my dream last night, I was in a hotel room with my mom and a friend. There was loud banging noise coming from the hallway and getting closer to our room. The door burst off its hinges and in came a man with a gun. I was thinking he came to rob has and he started yelling at us to get down. I guess we weren’t moving fast enough because he pointed the gun at my arm and fired a shot to indicate he was not messing around. It’s as if the moment happened in slow motion. Once the bullet hit my upper arm my skin started glowing from where the impact should have been and the bullet bounced off. I knew immediately in my spirit that an angel from God had blocked the bullet from hurting me. The man looked shocked and to be honest so did I. He started firing more shots at me and to the others in the room. Every spot on our bodies that the bullets hit started to glow like fire and the bullets bounced off. None of us were being affected by the bullets. The dream ended and woke me up in the middle of the night. I knew in my heart that the future attacks coming against me would ricochet off me like the bullets had in the dream. I felt so blessed to receive this reassuring dream from God and I had a great night sleep for the rest of the night. I woke up feeling inspired to write a devotional.

Usually when I do a devo for “Coffee Dates with Jesus” I choose one verse and center my devotional around that scripture. Today I felt I could really hear God’s voice in my spirit and wrote today’s devo at my kitchen table. When I finished I decided to site all the verses I included in the main body of the paragraph because I only wrote what what was in my mind. It turns out I had 12 verses in all without even realizing it! Sometimes one verse is not enough and God has more to say! I sincerely try to let God take the lead with these devos and only write what He has told me in my spirit. That is why I don’t post one every day or have a scheduled time to post because I want each post to be genuine and God inspired. These are not my inspired words but His alone. Glory to God that He still speaks to us and hears us when we call out to Him! I hope these devotionals encourage you as much as they encourage me. After I finish writing a post I re-read what it says just to enjoy what the Holy Spirit had bottled up inside me. I take no credit for what I write. It’s all from above. Thank you Jesus! Thank you Father! Thank you Holy Spirit! Where would I be without them? Truly blessed.

Devotional will be posted very soon!

why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in
hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then
I am strong.

Communion with God

What is the definition of communion? It is the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level. There are many ways we experience communion and closeness to God. I want to share with you the best way I know how to meet with God and join in communion with Him.

Give God your first and find a meeting place.

What do i mean by that?

In the old testament their was a tent of meeting that was always set up in the center of camp. The rest of the camp was built around this main tent. What does that revel? You need to build a tent of meeting to be with God. Every child of God must dwell with God in worship, prayer, and communion. In order to dwell with God you need to build or create a tent of meeting.

How can you do this?

It’s more then just finding a quiet place. You need to build and set up your meeting place with God in the center of you life. It must be the center of your day, the center of your schedule, the center of everything you do, the center of your life. That’s the key. If it’s not the center, then every other thing will crowd it out of existence. You don’t fit your time with God around your day or around your activities. Your relationship with God and the sacred meetings of that relationship can only occupy one place in your life. The center.

Center your life and everything of your life around God and your time with God. When you continue to meet with God in this one sacred place it becomes essentially a hot spot. A place of meeting that God arrives at with you to join in intimate communion. When you do that, everything else will fall into place.

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Matthew 6:6

“But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33

Of course God is with you always but wouldn’t it be better if you start your day in your tent of meeting and let God’s presence leave with you and go wherever you go throughout your day?

Every life is to be made temple filled with God’s presence. But without God’s presence we become a temple desecrated, defiled, darkened, filled with idols. Don’t let material things or even other people in your life become more important. We are created to live holy lives and treat our temples preciously. A temple created to be holy but fallen from its purpose is what God wants to prevent.

What do you do if that’s you?

You open the doors of your life and you let God come in. Let the Holy Spirit cleanse you and restore you.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

You let Him take away your sins, cleanse your impurities, restore your purpose, light up your heart, and fill your life with His presence. It’s never too late to rededicate your temple back to God. When you honor God with your body and ask Him to take away the fleshly desires He will fill it with His glory. In other words, let God dwell within you, walk beside you, restore your heart and soul.

Give God your first.

Let the Holy Spirit dwell within you.

Walk in the way Jesus walked.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”

2 Corinthians 13:14

Be the Change: MLK Day

Martin Luther King Jr Day

Love this the only force capable of transforming an enemy to a friend. -Martin Luther King Jr

This day is about a man who stood up for what was right and did so with the strength God enabled him to have. It’s hard to look back and see what times were like in his day. We’ve come so far, and also much work still needs to be done. We need to pray for our fellow man and ask for healing in our nation. We need to pray against the spirit of hatred and racism. We need to love each other, not because our enemies deserve it, but because Jesus did so for us ALL.

L O V E   O N E   A N O T H E R

“I give you a new commandment—to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples—if you have love for one another.” -John 13:34-35

Only Jesus alone can transform a heart of hatred. The change of a heart can change a person’s entire life and everyone around them. Your prayers can be the change someone makes to let God transform them.

Be a prayer warrior.

Be the change.

Pray and love!

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. -Martin Luther King Jr.

A Mind Set Free

coffee dates

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

God sees and hears everything. Including the embarrassing, lustful, and twisted thoughts that sometimes wander in our minds. Everything is laid bare for Him to see yet we rarely attempt to take our thoughts captive and deny the wrong things we think. The most private thoughts we are most ashamed of are in His full view. We need to take this part of our lives more seriously. Ask for forgiveness and His help in training your mind to focus on things above. Evil thoughts will always come but it’s our decision to cast it down and replace it. What that means is taking scripture and mediating on it to the point where no evil thought can penetrate. Let His Word, lead your thoughts and emotions. If your mind is continually dwelling and mediating on the Word, then your thoughts will eventually become one with God’s. That’s what He wants for you; to have a mind of Christ. Your mind is what rules your life and out of the heart comes your true intentions. Our minds are continually being bombarded by television channels, images on the internet, and other media outlets that compete for our attention. At times we let them win our attention and our thoughts become captive and consumed. When we eat junk food we are affecting our physical health and it’s the same with our mental health. When we consume mental junk food it is devastating the imagination. It pleases God when we take care of our bodies but it also pleases Him when we take care of what we allow in our minds. The mind must be retrained because our thought life shapes who we become and how we receive what God has to say to us. Cleanse your mind and don’t allow the entertainment of this world to bombard and drown you with its deceptive philosophies. Let God’s Word and voice nourish your mind. If you let God change your thoughts, He can change your life!

War Room Verses

As long as you are living and breathing on this earth you are a threat to the enemy. You bear God’s image on you and have been put on this earth for such a time as this. Jesus defeated death and has won the victory, but the fight is not over for us on earth. The devil wants to steal what God has provided for you and me. A battle for souls and a battle for nations is at stake.

Though we go through the battle God has not left us alone to fight. He provides us with His word and the Holy Spirit. (John 14:15-17) We were never meant to fight the battles of this world alone. If we do we will bear the heavy weight of the infinite and exhaust ourselves.

We all seek God in our own way while meeting with him in our prayer or war room. Let me show you a way of approaching your war room before you actually give God your requests in prayer that maybe most don’t think to normally do first.

“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life.”

Psalm 42:7-8

Worship is the key that opens the flood gates to God’s presence. In prayer we speak with our Father and lay out our wants and requests. In worship we place our worries aside for a moment and give God the glory and praise. Worship is intimate. You lift your hands in surrender, close your eyes, and profess with your lips your love for Him.

When you go into your quiet place or war room you can invite God’s presence by the very act of worship. In the New Covenant scriptures, in Greek only, the word for worship is proskuneo. It means to kiss. A kiss is one of the most intimate forms of expression and when we worship our God we are spiritually kissing him. When you kiss you don’t do it cause you have to, but because you want to freely express the love the overflows from your heart to Him. If a kiss is an ultimate expression of love, then worship is the ultimate and most intimate expression to God.

“Yet a time is coming and has now one when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind if worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

John 4:23-24

In scripture the King Jehoshaphat was told by God to not be afraid of the war that was before them for the battle was God’s alone. In the battle the worshippers were told to go to the front of the battle and sing his praises while the Lord God fought their battle for them. Their enemies ended up destroying one another. And God gave them the victory God fought the battle while they gave him the praise in song and worship! (2 Chronicle 20)

Do your fighting on your knees, with your hands raised. God will fight on your behalf. While you do the praising, He will do the fighting.

Ephesians tells us how to prepare ourselves to go to war. The spiritual forces of evil are ready to attack which is why Paul tells us we need to arm ourselves with God’s armor so that we might be able to take our stand against the enemy and his schemes. I have taken pieces of scripture to form into a prayer that you can say aloud in the morning before starting your day or in your war room.

I put on the full armor of God today. I put on the helmet of salvation and the breastplate of righteousness, and with my feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace; and the belt of truth buckled around my waist. In addition to this I take up the shield of faith which can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. I take up the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God, and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request. No weapon formed against me will prosper because I am covered by the blood of Jesus and child of the most high! Holy Spirit keep me in Your will today. Keep my path’s straight and my eyes focused on the prize which is You. Lord dispatch your warrior angels to surround me and protect me throughout my day. Keep my feet from stumbling and give me wisdom from above to discern my decision making today. Give me a willing heart and a steadfast spirit. Though my heart and flesh may fail, You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever! With You at my right hand I shall not be shaken! I give you the honor, glory, and praise! I pray for all of this in the name of Jesus! Amen!

Though the days are dark and worse off then any time in history God saw each of us individually and handpicked us to live in this generation. We were selectively picked to be God’s warriors in this time of battle. He picked the strong and the mighty to live in these days. God could have let you be born in any generation in history yet he picked you for such a time as this. What an honor that our God would believe in us and use us for His glory in His last days! The days may be dark, but God’s light is stronger! Be the light and fight in your War Room for your family, your nation, yourself, and even your enemies.

Here is a list of verses to arm you with strength and courage in your War Room. Read these verses out loud into existence and let the enemy know his place!
